The Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) in collaboration with the TWAS is organizing the interactive event TWAS/BioVisionAlexandria.NXT (TWAS/BVA.NXT) which comes within the framework of the international conference BioVisionAlexandria 2008.

BioVisionAlexandria conference is a biennial conference that takes place in Alexandria, Egypt every even year and alternates with its sister conference BioVision Lyon, France every odd year. BioVisionAlexandria is a continuation of the tradition that started in BioVision 1999 Lyon, which aims to bring distinguished speakers in discussions commemorating science and the finest achievements of the human intellect.

What is TWAS/BVA.NXT?

Due to the lack of funding facilities and networking abilities, particularly among young scientists in the developing world, delay in science advancement in those countries is noticeable. Even though developing countries require more funding on research, more than 96% of the global Research & Development finance is spent in the developed countries, while the developing countries are accounted for the remaining 4%! TWAS/BVA.NXT is the attempt to tackle this problem.

The TWAS/BVA.NXT is an event to be held under the theme “Funding Research in the Developing World” where representatives from international funding organizations are invited to present and demonstrate their organizations’ activities and opportunities they can offer to young researchers of the developing world.

At this juncture, young scientists from the developing world can share their ideas and experience, in addition to meeting mentors and eminent scientists who would take their hands and pave the way into research and development.
