TWAS ROLAC announces the winners of the TWAS-ROLAC Young Scientist PRIZE - 2009
Dear Colleagues,
We are happy to announce the winners of the TWAS-ROLAC PRIZE for Young Scientists.
In 2009 the Prize was announced in the areas of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Earth and Space Sciences.
A total 12 young candidates were nominated by fellow scientists across Latin America. A panel of distinguished experts in each of the four areas was formed to evaluate those candidacies.
Based on the reports from the panel members the TWAS-ROLAC Prize 2009 is awarded as follows:
- Mathematics: Ernesto Lupercio, CINVESTAV, Mexico
- Physics: Rodrigo Capaz, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
- Chemistry: Pierre Mothe Esteves, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
- Earth and Space Sciences: Maurício Calderon Nettle, Servicio Nacional de Geología y Minería, Chile
The Prize will be delivered during the 5th TWAS-ROLAC Young Scientists Conference, to be held May 4-6, 2009 at the headquarters of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences in Rio de Janeiro.
On the occasion the awardees will make a presentation of their works.
