Biography
Dr. Lainson was educated at Steyning Grammar School, Sussex. At London University he obtained his BSc in 1951, and his PhD and DSc (Parasitology) in 1955 and 1964. He was a lecturer in the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine from 1955 to 1959, and worked on leishmaniasis in Belize, Central America  from 1960-1962. In 1965, he directed the Wellcome Parasitology Unit in the Instiruto Evandro Chagas, Belém, Brazil until retirement in 1992. Awards include the Chalmers and Manson Medals of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene, Order of the British Empire, Fellowship of the Royal Society of London and Hon. Dr., University Federal of Pará. Memberships include: London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, British Society for Parasitology, and the Society of Protozoologists.
