| Biography | | Dr. Lainson was
educated at Steyning Grammar School, Sussex. At London University he obtained
his BSc in 1951, and his PhD and DSc (Parasitology) in 1955 and 1964. He was a
lecturer in the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine from 1955 to
1959, and worked on leishmaniasis in Belize, Central America from 1960-1962. In 1965, he directed the
Wellcome Parasitology Unit in the Instiruto Evandro Chagas, Belém, Brazil until
retirement in 1992. Awards include the Chalmers and Manson Medals of the Royal
Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene, Order of the British Empire,
Fellowship of the Royal Society of London and Hon. Dr., University Federal of
Pará. Memberships include: London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine,
British Society for Parasitology, and the Society of Protozoologists. |
