| Biography | | Dr. Barros obtained
his PhD at Tulane University in 1968. He is Full Professor at the Pontifical
Catholic University, Chile. His previous positions include: Visiting Scientist
in the Department of Biology at the University of Houston and the Medical
Research Council, UK on various occasions; President of the Iberoamerican
Society for Cell Biology from 1986-92; and Vice President of the International
Federation of Cell Biology from 1992-96. His honors include: Official Guest,
National University of Tucumán, Argentina; Honorary Research Fellow at
University College, London; Honor Guest at the Universidad Nacional de Rio
Cuarto, Argentina; Honorary Member of the Argentinian Society of Biology;
Fellow of the Latin American Academy of Sciences; Professor Honoris Causa,
Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos and Universidad Ricardo Palma, Lima,
