| Biography | | MOREL, Carlos M. (Brazil). b.28-10-1943. D.Sc., Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Center for Technological Development in Health, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Morel was a pioneer in characterizing proteins bound to messenger RNA. He has also developed methods for characterization of pathogenic protozoa, sequenced the genes of Trypanosoma cruzi and developed a PCR-based diagnosis of Chagas Disease. A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he has won the Chagas Prize, the Gra-Cruz National Order of Scientific Merit and the commendatory Order of Rio Branco. He is a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. |
