| Biography | | Dr. Padrón is Senior
Investigator and Head of the Department of Structural Biology of the Venezuelan
Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC) in Caracas. After obtaining his PhD at
IVIC and completing postdoctoral work at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular
Biology in Cambridge (UK), Padrón returned to Venezuela in 1983 and has since
worked in various capacities at IVIC. He was the founder of the Department of
Structural Biology of IVIC in 1997. His honours include: Polar Prize in 1991;
CONICIT Biology Prizes in 1989, 1990, 1996; and the FONACIT Biology Prize in
2005. He is Visiting Professor, Department of Cell Biology, University of
Massachusetts Medical School, Worcester, and a member of the Latin-American
Academy of Sciences (ACAL). He is an International Research Scholar, Howard
Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI), USA for the years 1997-2001, 2002-2006 and
2007-2011. |
