Biography
Dr. Latorre is Scientific Attaché at the Chilean Embassy, Italy, Professor at the Univ. of Chile (Santiago) and Centre for Scientific Studies (CECS) in Valdivia, Chile, and Adjunct Professor at UC Los Angeles (Anesthesiology). He was Asst. Prof. at the Univ. of Chicago and Assoc. Prof. at Harvard Medical School. He returned to Chile in 1983 where he co-founded CECS. His honours include: Elizabeth Cole Award, Biophysical Society, USA; John Simon Guggenheim memorial Foundation Fellowship; Presidential Chair in Science (Chile), 2 times; Natl. Prize in Natural Sciences, Chile; Robert F. Kennedy Professorship in Latin American Studies, Harvard; and Member, Synapses, Channels and Transporters Study Section, NIH, USA. He is a Member of the Latin American Academy of Sciences, Chilean Academy of Sciences, US Natl. Academy of Sciences and the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
