| Biography | | Dr. Herrera Martinez
is founder and Director General of the Centre for Genetic Engineering and
Biotechnology, Cuba. After his postgraduate studies at the Natl. Centre for
Scientific Research, Havana, and Fac. Orsay, Paris, he obtained his PhD at the
Institute of Microbiology, Czechoslovakia. He completed postdoctoral work at
the Center of Molecular Genetics, Gift Sur Ivette (Paris), Molecular Biology
Institute (Zurich), Institute Pasteur (Paris), and Fairchild Biochemical
Laboratories, Harvard. His honours include: 250th Anniversary Medal, Havana
Univ.; National Award in Sciences Carlos J. Finlay Order, Cuba; and Emeritus
Researcher, Ministry for Science, Technology and Environment, Cuba. He is a
member of the New York Academy of Sciences and the Cuban Academy of Sciences,
the American Association for the Advancement of Science and other scientific
associations. |
