| Biography | | Leopoldo De Meis was
educated in Brazil where he obtained his MD at the Federal University of Rio de
Janeiro in 1961. He is currently Professor of Biochemistry at the Federal
University of Rio de Janeiro. His honours include: Privat Dozent in 1968; LAFI
Award in 1978; Oswaldo Cruz Award in 1989, Brazil; N. Van Uden Award Lecture
from the University of Coimbra, Portugal in 1993; National Order for Scientific
Merits, Grã-Cruz, Brazil, in 1995; National Order for Education Merits,
Comendador, Brazil in 2000; and Dr. h.c. from the University of Louvain,
Belgium in 1994 and the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1997. He is a
Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the Latin American Academy of
Sciences. |
