| Biography | | Professor Rojas was
educated at the Medical School of the University of Chile in Santiago from
1957-58. He obtained his first degree in Mathematics (1961) at the University
of Chile and his PhD (Physiology, 1964) at the University of Chicago. He became
Full Professor of Biophysics at the University of Chile in 1966, becoming the
youngest Full Professor in Chile. He has been an Overseas Fellow and Visiting
Professor at the University of Cambridge; Independent Investigator in the
Laboratory of the Marine Biological Association in Plymouth, UK; Chairman of
the Department of Biophysics in the School of Biological Sciences at the
University of East Anglia, UK, 1976-85; and Research Scientist, with tenure, at
the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. He was honoured with
the Chilean Presidential Chair for Scientific Achievements, 1996-2001. |
