| Biography | | Fernando Henrique Cardoso is an eminent sociologist and author of several books who served as President of Brazil for two terms. He is a former Professor of Political Science and Sociology of the Universidade de São Paulo, member of the Institute for Advanced Study (Princeton), and honorary foreign member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He was also Associated Director of Studies in the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris and visiting professor at the Collège de France and Paris-Nanterre University. He lectured at American universities including Stanford University and UC Berkeley. After his presidency, he was appointed to a five-year term as professor-at-large at Brown University's Watson Institute for International Studies, beginning in 2003. |
