| Biography | | Dr. Mascarenhas was educated at the University of São Paulo, Brazil (PhD, Physics) in 1957. He is Scientific Director of the Inst. for Advanced Studies at the University of São Paulo at São Carlos, Brazil and the Intl. Program for Studies and Projects for Latin America (PIEPAL). His previous positions include: Full Professor of Physics, University of São Paulo, São Carlos, 1958-82; Director of Biophysics and Medical Physics Colleges at ICTP, Trieste, 1982-92; and Director and Senior Research Fellow, Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA), 1984-95. His awards include: Manuel Sandoval Vallarta Award and Chair, Mexico; Yamada Foundation Award, Japan; and the Silver Jubilee Medal, Brazilian Society for the Advancement of Science. His membership includes: Brazilian and Latin American Academies of Sciences; Academy of Sciences of São Paulo; and the American Physics Society. |
