| Biography | | Dr. Sala was educated at the University of São Paulo, the University of Illinois and the University of Wisconsin. He is Professor of Physics at the University of São Paulo, Vice President of the Brazilian Academy of Science, and President of the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FASESP), Brazil. He was previously Head of the Nuclear Physics Department at the University of São Paulo from 1970-79 and 1983-87 and Visiting Professor at the University of Wisconsin in 1968. His awards include: Silver Jubilee Medal, Brazilian Society for Advancement of Science Jubilee Medal, Brazilian National Research Council; Moinho Santista Prize and Gold Medal for Contributions in Physics; and the Carneiro Felipe Medal, Brazilian Atomic Energy Commission. His membership includes: Brazilian Academy of Science; São Paulo Academy of Sciences; and American Academy of Arts and Sciences. |
