Biography
Professor Perez is well known for his contributions to statistical physics, particularly to the theory of phase transitions and on Griffiths singularities in localized states and phase transitions of systems with random parameters. He is currently Scientific Director, State of São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), Professor of Mathematical Physics, Univ. of São Paulo, a Member on the Board of Trustees, Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA), and a Member on the National Science and Technology Council, Brazil, since 2001. He is also Chairman of the Finance Board of the Pierre Auger International Observatory. He has been awarded the National Order of Scientific Merit in 1996 and the National Cross of Scientific Merit in 2000. He is a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the State of São Paulo Academy of Sciences.
