| Biography | | Igor Saavedra was educated at the University of Chile and Manchester University where he obtained his PhD in Theoretical Physics in 1959. He is currently: Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of Chile; President of the Science and Technology Museum; President of the Centre of Research on the Environment (CIPMA) and President of the Council of the Americas, Chile Fund for Sustainable Development. His honours include: Marcos Orrego Puelma Award, Institute Engineers; Ramón Salas Edwards Award, Institute of Engineering; Chilean National Science Prize; Honorary Member, Colegio de Ingenieros, Chile; D.Sc. (h.c.) from 3 universities; Orden Nacional do Mérito Científico, Brazil; and the Gold Medal, Institute of Engineering. His membership includes: Chilean Academy of Science; Latin American Academy of Science; Royal Academy of Science, Spain; and the Argentinian Academy of Science. |
