| Biography | | Humberto Terrones is head of the Advanced Materials Division at the Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (IPICyT) in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. After obtaining a PhD degree at Birkbeck College, University of London, he held a postdoctoral position at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge (UK). He returned to Mexico in 1992 to the Institute of Physics, UNAM, where he spent 8 years as a researcher. In 2001 he moved to San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to start a new institute with the main idea of working in multidisciplinary research and decentralize science from Mexico City. In 2000 he received the Mexican Academy of Sciences Prize in Exact Sciences and the UNAM Prize for Young Scientists in Exact Sciences. In 2004 he was awarded the 'El Potosí' Prize from IPICyT. He is a Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences. |
