| Biography | | Dr. Nussenzveig obtained his PhD in 1957 (University of São Paulo). He is Prof. of Physics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. His previous positions include Sen. Res. Assoc. and Prof. of Physics at the Inst. for Fundamental Studies at the Univ. of Rochester from 1968-75 and Prof. at the Pontifical Catholic Univ. of Rio de Janeiro from 1983-94. His contributions include the theory of Mie scattering and the theories of the rainbow and the glory. He has also developed a complex angular momentum technique which complements the classic investigations of Debye and Mie. His awards include: Great Cross, Natl. Order of Scientific Merit, Brazil; Natl. Prize of S&T, Brazil; and the Jabuti Prize, Brazilian Chamber of Book Publishers. His membership includes: Brazilian Academy of Sciences; Academy of Sciences of Latin America; Optical Society of America; and the American Physical Society. |
