| Biography | | Dr. Villegas was
educated at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, the Children’s Medical Ctr.
in Boston, and Inst. Venezolano
Investigaciones Científicas (IVIC), Caracas. She obtained her MD in 1955 and PhSc in 1973. She is
Professor at the Inst. Estudios Avanzados, Director of the Unit of
Ultrastructure and Cellular Biology, and Member (Academic Council,
FUNDACIENCIA), Caracas. Her previous positions include: Investigator, Head of
Ultrastructure Laboratory, and Director of the Biophysics Dept., IVIC, Caracas
and Member and President (1973-76), Biology Committee, National Research
Council (CONICIT), Venezuela. Her awards include: Maxima Calificación Award,
Faculty of Medicine, Universidad Central de Venezuela, 1955; Order of Andres
Bello Decoration, Venezuela, Second Class, 1970; and First Class, 1982. She is
Member of the Academy of Sciences of Latin America. |
