| Biography | | Ventura graduated in psychology (Univ. of São Paulo, 1961) and studied visual psychophysics at Columbia University (Master's, 1964 and PhD, 1968) with C.H. Graham. In Brazil, she has been dedicated to visual research in invertebrates and non-mammalian vertebrates and retinal mechanisms for color vision through electrophysiological, morphological and behavioral studies. In the 1990s she founded a center for diagnosis of human visual losses due to diseases that affect retinal function (diabetes, mercury intoxication and genetic diseases). She is full professor at the Institute of Psychology, was vice dean, head of department as well as founder, member of boards and president of scientific societies. She is vice president of the Brazilian Society for Advancement of Science, member of the Brazilian Academy of Science and received the National Order for Scientific Merit (1998). |
