| Biography | | Dr. Rocha-Miranda is
Director of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. He received his Doctor in
Medicine in 1961 at the “Universidade do Brasil”, where he served as Professor
and Head of the Neurobiology II Lab at the Biophysics Institute and Senior
Researcher of the National Research Council. He had postdoctoral experience at
NIMH, Bethesda, Maryland and Harvard University. After his retirement in 1991,
he became a member of the board of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences. His honors
include Full Cross of the Order of Scientific Merit (1994), TWAS Prize in
Biology (1995), Emeritus Researcher of the National Research Council (2005) and
the medal of the Brazilian Society of Neuroscience. He was elected Associate
Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences in 1972 and Full Member in 1978. |
