| Biography | | Professor Guzman’s pioneering
and insightful studies on the outbreaks of Dengue fever in Cuba have
contributed much to our understanding of the molecular epidemiology, molecular
biology and diagnosis of Dengue and Dengue Hemorrhage fever. She is Head of the
Virology Dept., Institute of Tropical Medicine "Pedro Kouri," Havana,
Cuba and Director of PAHO/WHO Collaborating Centre for the Study of dengue and
its vector. She has received numerous honours including 14 awards by the Cuban
Academy of Sciences, 6 by the Cuban Minister of Public Health, 4 prizes by the
National Forum for S&T, an Award from the Congress of Tropical Medicine,
Guayaquil, Ecuador, and was named the Distinguished Scientific Woman in 2001 by
the Cuban Academy of Sciences. She is a member of the Cuban Academy of Sciences,the
STACT at TDR/WHO and the Foundation Council for Health Research. |
