| Biography | | Dr. Fernandez was
educated at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and the University of
Chile where he obtained his MD (Clinical Prize) in 1937. His previous positions
include: President, Chilean Academy of Sciences; Professor of Pathological
Physiology, School of Medicine, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile;
Professor, Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Faculty of Biological
Sciences; and Visiting Professor, Department of Anatomy, University of
Illinois, Chicago. He is now retired. His honours include: Vatican's
Decoration, San Silvestro Pope; Gold Medal Hagedorn, Latin American Association
of Diabetes; and DSc (h.c.) from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile.
His membership includes: Chilean Academy of Sciences; NY Academy of Sciences;
Latin American Academy of Sciences; and the Academy of Exact, Physical,
Mathematical and Natural Sciences, Buenos Aires. |
