| Biography | | Kalil obtained his MD (1977) and doctorat d'etat (biologie humaine, 1982) in Paris. He worked on the structure and function of HLA class II molecules using monoclonal antibodies. In Brazil, he became director of the Lab. of Immunology at the Heart Inst., School of Medicine, Univ. of São Paulo (FMUSP). In 1991, he took a sabbatical as director of the Tissue Typing Lab at Stanford. He has been adviser to the Ministry of Health in Brazil and founded the Brazilian Society for Organ Transplantation. He is a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and received the Medal of Natl. Scientific Merit in 1998. He chairs the Inst. for the Investigation of Immunology (Millennium Institutes). He is full prof. of medicine and head of the Division of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (FMUSP), council member of IUIS and pres. of the Intl. Congress of Immunology, Rio de Janeiro, 2007. |
