| Biography | | Dr. de Melo is a Professor at the Instituto de Matematica Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Professor de Melo has remarkably well described the topological structure of one-dimensional dynamics by proving the non-existence of wandering intervals and the finiteness of attractors. He has also contributed to the renormalization theory of unimodal maps. An elected Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, he has won the Grã-Cruz Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico, Brazil. |
