| Biography | | Dr. Martinez Aguilera is Professor of Mathematics at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago. He has made several fundamental contributions to probability theory, including modeling of natural phenomena through stochastic methods. Some of these are: (a) exponential absorption, quasi-stationary distributions and the Martin boundary in killed Markov chains; (b) ultrametric matrices and potential theory; and (c) attraction of the maximal entropy measure in algebraic cellular automata. Fellow of the Chilean Academy of Sciences, he received the National Prize in Exact Sciences and the Manuel Noriega OEA Prize in Exact Sciences. |
