Biography
EXEL, Ruy (Brazil). b.2-7-1956. PhD, Professor, Departamento de Matematica, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Florianopolis, Brazil. Exel has introduced the widely used idea of partial group representations and cross product algebras for partial dynamic systems. He has also made important contributions in a variety of other subjects, e.g. rotation numbers, maximal subdiagonal algebras, harmonic analysis etc. A member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, he has received the 'Ordem Nacional do Merito Cientifico (comendador)'.
