| Biography | | Dr. Tirao is Full Professor at the Universidad Nacional de Cordoba and Research Staff Member of the Natl. Res. Council (CONICET), Argentina. He is known for the formulation and corresponding proofs of necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a complex structure on a homogeneous vector bundle. Following work (Harish-Chandra) on the theory of Lie group representation he obtained a characterization of the image of the classifying ring of Lie groups of rank one. His awards include: Prize, Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, 1964; Guggenheim Fellow, 1973; Outstanding Fellow, Camara Junior de Buenos Aires, 1977; and First Prize in Mathematics, Coca-Cola Natl. Contest in Arts and Sciences, 1980. His membership includes: Academia Nacional de Ciencias, Cordoba; Corr. Member, Academia Nacional de Ciencias Exactas, Fisicas y Naturales, Buenos Aires; and Union Matematica Argentina. |
