| Biography | | Dr. Lima obtained his MSc (1955) and PhD (Mathematics, 1958) at the University of Chicago. He is Full Researcher and Director at the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA). His previous positions include: Many visiting academic posts at Princeton, Columbia University, Rochester, University of California and the University of Warwick, UK; Full Professor at the University of Brasília; Member of the Council, National Research Council, Brazil from 1968-71; Member of the Educational Commission, Brazil-USA from 1968-71; Member of the Board of Directors from 1979-88; and Member of the National Council of Education from 1995-97. He has been awarded the Edna M. Allen Prize by the University of Chicago and the Prêmio Jabuti de Ciências Exatas by the Câmara Brasileira do Livro. He is a Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and the Brazilian Mathematical Society. |
