Biography
Dr. Araújo was educated at the Instituto de Matemática Pura e Aplicada (IMPA), Brazil (Master, Mathematics, 1969) and UC Berkeley (PhD, Statistics, 1974). He is: Professor of IMPA and Fundação Getúlio Vargas; Member of the Editorial Boards of many journals; and Member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of CNPq and CAPES. His previous positions include: Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Chicago from 1977-80 and Visiting Professor at the Universities of Berkeley, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Sorbonne, Pennsylvania and Cambridge. His awards include: Comendador da Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico, President of the Republic of Brazil, 1998 and Grã-Cruz da Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico, President of the Republic of Brazil, 2002. His membership includes: Brazilian Academy of Sciences; American Academy of Arts and Sciences; and the Econometric Society.
