Biography
Dr. Iusem has made seminal contributions to the study of optimization, complementarity and reconstruction algorithms which have had great practical significance in image reconstruction and similar inverse problems. He has also been a pioneer in introducing entropic proximal methods, a domain of great promise in the field of continuous optimization. He has been Full Researcher at the Institute  for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IMPA) in Rio de Janeiro since 1981. He obtained his BSc in Mathematics from the University of Buenos Aires in 1971, and his PhD in Operations Research from Stanford University in 1981. He was granted the Brazilian National Order of the Scientific Merit (Great Closs degree) in 2002 and is a Full Member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences since the year 2000.
