Biography
Professor Terrones obtained his BSc (Engineering Physics, first class honors) at Universidad Iberoamericana, and was distinguished as the Best Student of Mexico in Engineering Physics in 1992. In 1998 he received his DPhil (University of Sussex) under Sir Prof. Harold W. Kroto (Nobel Laureate, FRS) and David R. M. Walton (FRSC). He has co-authored more than 175 journal publications (with more than 3500 independent citations to his work). He has received the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (1999), Mexican National Prize for Chemistry (2000), Javed Husain Prize and Albert Einstein medal (2001, UNESCO). In 2005, the governor of the State of San Luis Potosí awarded him the “José Antonio Villaseñor y Sánchez” prize for outstanding contributions to nanoscience in the region. He is leader of the National Nanoscience and Nanotecnology Research Laboratory (LINAN) at IPICYT.
