| Biography | | Dr. Bevilacqua was
educated at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and Stanford (PhD,
Applied Mechanics, 1971). He is: Senior Researcher at the National Laboratory
of Scientific Computation, Brazil; Member of the Board of Directors, Brazilian
Academy of Sciences; and Brazil representative, International Union of
Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. He is known for his research on approximate
algorithms for variational methods as well as his work on bridges, buildings,
and nuclear reactors. He has recently focused on mathematical and computational
modeling of biosystems and ecosystems. His awards include the Alvaro Alberto
Prize, National Research Council, Brazil and the Gran Cruz, Order of Scientific
Merit, Ministry of S&T, Brazil. His membership includes: American Academy
of Mechanics; Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Germany; and the
Brazilian Academy of Sciences. |
