| Biography | | Dr. De Mello was educated at MIT (DSc, Civil Geotechnical Engineering, 1949). He is: Principal of Victor F.B. De Mello and Associates, Consulting Engineers; Intl. Consultant in Geotechnical, Dam, and Public Works’ Engineering; and Emeritus Lecturer (retired) of São Paulo University. His previous positions include: Asst. Professor, Chair and Dean of the School of Engineering, Mackenzie University, São Paulo and Chair Professor at the University of São Paulo, the Schools of Engineering, São Carlos, and Polytechnic. His honours include: 2 Terzaghi Prize Awards, Brazil; 2 Engineer of the Year Awards, São Paulo; and the Manuel Rocha Lecturer and Prize, Portugal. His membership includes: National Academy of Engineering, USA; Luso-Brazilian Academy of Sciences and Arts; National Academy of Engineering, Brazil; and the National Academy of Engineering, Argentina. |
