| Biography | | Dr. Cordani obtained his DSc (1968) at the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. He is Full Professor at the Institute of Geosciences, where he was Director of the Geochronology Research Center (1974-1985), Vice-Director (1983-1987) and Director (1987-1991). At USP, he was also Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies (1994-1997), President of the International Cooperation Commission (1998-2001) and President of the Commission of Evaluation (2001-2003). His awards include: Great Cross of Scientific Merit, Brazil; Gold Medal José Bonifácio, Brazilian Geological Society; Herbert Thomas Prize, Chilean Geological Society; Spendiarov Medal, Russia; Chévalier des Palmes Academiques, France; Doctor Honoris Causa, University of Aveiro, Portugal. His membership includes the academies of science of Brazil, Argentina and Lisbon, as well as the Latin American Academy of Sciences. |
