| Biography |
Dr. Kausel obtained his PhD in Geophysics at Columbia University in 1972. He is Full Professor in the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Chile in Santiago. His previous positions include: Head of the Department of Geophysics, University of Chile; Vice Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences and Mathematics; Member, National Council for Science and Technology; President, Geophysics Commission, Pan American Institute of Geography and History; Member, Executive Committee, International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior; Member, Executive Council, International Seismological Centre, UK; and President, Board of Directors, Regional Centre for Seismology for South America. His honours include: Full Member National Academy of Sciences, Chile; Gold Medal National Institute of Civil Engineering; Chilean National Prize of Applied Sciences. |
