| Biography | | Nobre studied electrical engineering at the Brazilian Aeronautics Inst. of Technology. He worked for the Natl. Inst. of Amazonian Research as an engineer and then obtained a PhD (meteorology) at MIT. In 1983, he joined INPE where he works today. For almost 30 years, he has been involved with Amazonian science and has participated in a large number of field experiments in that region, mostly studying local, regional and global impacts of Amazonian deforestation based on observations and modeling. He was a program scientist of the Large Scale Biosphere Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia. From 1991 to 2003, he was director of the Brazilian Ctr. for Weather and Climate Prediction. He has authored over 100 scientific publications and has participated in scientific committees. He is serving as chair of the Scientific Committee of the International Geosphere Biosphere Programme. |
