| Biography | | McDowell received his BSc (1st Class Honours) in chemistry from the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, Jamaica in 1985, and his PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, in 1992. After postdoctoral studies at the University of Western Ontario, Canada (1993 - 1996), he joined the staff of the UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados in 1997 as a lecturer and was promoted to professor of theoretical chemistry in 2005. He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS) and a past member of the New York Academy of Sciences (NYAS). His awards include: CAS Young Scientist Award (1999), UWI Vice-Chancellor’s Award (2004), EPSRC Visiting Fellowship to the University of Cambridge (2005) and the Caricom Science Award (2008). |
