| Biography | | Dr. Vargas was
educated in Brazil and obtained his PhD (Cambridge) in 1959. He is Board Member
of the Universal Networking Language Foundation (Geneva) and Economy and Energy
(http://ecen.com) and Pres., Inst. UNDL
Brasil (Florianópolis). His
previous positions include: Brazilian Ambassador to UNESCO, Paris; Member and
Pres., UNESCO´s Exec. Board; Chairman, Adv. Committ. on S&T, Intl. Labour
Off.; Member, Pres. Natl. Energy Commiss., Brazil; Professor (Physical
Chemistry), Fed. Univ. of Minas Gerais and Brazilian Ctr. for Res. in Physics;
and Minister of S&T, Brazil. He has received many honours including: IBM
S&T Prize, Brazilian Acad. of Sci. (ABC); Intl. Coop. in S&T Prize
(Chinese Govt.); Leloir Medal for scientific coop. (Argentina); Legion
d'Honneur (France); and Knight Commander of the British Empire (Hon). He is
Member of ABC and the European Acad. of Sciences, Arts and Letters. |
