| Biography | | Dr. Toma is Professor
of Chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, University of São Paulo, Brazil. He
obtained his PhD in 1974 in a program sponsored by the National Academy of
Sciences and Conselho Nacional de Pesquisas, Brazil, under Profs. John Michael
Malin, Ernesto Giesbrecht and Henry Taube. He did postdoctoral work at
Brookhaven National Laboratory (1976) under Carol Creuz and Norman Sutin, and
at California Institute of Technology (1979) under Harry Gray. His publications
include 240 papers in international journals. He has been honoured with several
prizes and medals including: Henrich-Rheinboldt Prize (1987); Simão Mathias
Medal (1997); Guggenheim Fellow Award (1999); Fritz-Feigl Prize (2001); and
National Science Medal (2002). He is member of the Brazilian Academy of
Sciences and the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences. |
