| Biography | | Sylvia Torres-Peimbert is Professor at the Instituto de Astronomia of the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM). She obtained her PhD degree at UC Berkeley in 1969. Since then, she returned to her home country and has been working at the University of Mexico in Mexico City. In addition, she is presently Vice President of the International Astronomical Union. Her honours include: Medal Guillaume Bude, College de France; Sciences Prize, UNAM; Editor, Revista Mexicana de Astronomia y Astrofisica; and Emeritus professor, UNAM. Her membership includes: Mexican Academy of Sciences; Mexican Physical Society; American Astronomical Society; and the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. |
