| Biography | | Dr. Peimbert is Professor at the Instituto de Astronomia, Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico. He is also Member of El Colegio Nacional and the Academic Board of Governors of UNAM. After obtaining his PhD degree at UC Berkeley in 1967, he pursued postdoctoral work for one year. He returned to Mexico in 1968 and has since been working at UNAM. He has been Vice President of the International Astronomical Union and TWAS. His honours include: Science Prize, Mexican Academy of Sciences; Medal Guillaume Bude, College de France; National Prize of Sciences, Mexico; Sciences Prize, UNAM; and Editor Emeritus, Revista Mexicana de Fisica. His membership includes: the Mexican Academy of Sciences; US National Academy of Sciences; Latin American Academy of Sciences; Foreign Associate, Royal Astronomical Society, UK; and the American Philosophical Society. |
