| Biography | | Barbuy obtained her physics degree (1972) at the Physics Institute, University of São Paulo; master's in astronomy (1976), Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, University of São Paulo (IAG-USP); and Docteur d’Etat ès Sciences Physiques (1982), Observatory of Paris, University of Paris VII. She then worked at IAG-USP, where she is now full professor. She is also vicedirector of IAG-USP and vice-president of the International Astronomical Union. During her career, she worked at the Lick Observatory, USA; Institute for Astronomy, Cambridge, UK; European Southern Observatory; Garching bei München, Germany and Chile. From 2001-2006, she coordinated a Millennium Institute project from the World Bank for building instruments for the SOAR telescope. She has produced 175 papers in international refereed journals and has 4500 citations in the NASA/Astrophysical Data System. |
