| Biography | | Dr. Moura is Director of the Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia (INMET). He was previously: Director General, Intl. Res. Inst. for Climate and Society, Columbia Univ.; Sen. Researcher and Dir. of Meteorology, INPE, Brazil; and Prof. of Physics, Univ. of Taubate, Brazil. He has advanced research in climate forecasting, El Niño and Atlantic influences on droughts in northeastern Brazil and has contributed to the application of meteorological satellites and climate modelling forecasts in agriculture and water resources. He is developing an 'end-to-end' climate forecast system for global food security and identifying relationships between climate and vector-borne diseases. His awards include: World Meteorological Organization Award for Young Scientists, Geneva; Santos Dumont Medal, Ministry of Aeronautics, Brazil; Carl Rossby Award, MIT; and Awards from Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais. |
