| Biography | | Dr. Montenegro is
Full Professor of Botany at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Pres.
of the Latin American Plant Sciences for graduate fellowships, and Pres. of the
Scientific Research Commission, Fundación Copec-PUC. She is a Member of the
Exec. Board of Chilean Comunidad-Mujer, Intl. Jury of the L'Oreal-Unesco Award
for “Woman in Science”, and Scientific Committee of the TWNSO/GEF Project
“Promoting Best Practices for Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity
of Global Significance in Arid and Semiarid Zones.” She was awarded the L’Oreal-UNESCO
Prize for Woman in Science, Laureate 1998 for Latin America and the Gold Medal
of the Cultural Inst. of Providencia, Chile. She has held positions at the
Catholic Univ. of Chile, the Univ. of Texas, Austin and the Univ. of Arizona,
Tucson. She is a Fellow of the Latin American Academy of Sciences and a member
of TWOWS. |
