Dr. Malavolta is Full Professor (retired) of the University of São Paulo, Brazil and currently Research Worker ad honorem at the Center of Nuclear Energy in Agriculture, Piracicaba, SP, Brazil.  He was a research associate at Berkeley and visiting professor at several US and Latin American Universities. He has books in Portuguese, Spanish, English, Chinese and Hindi. His honours include: Member Brazilian Academy of Sciences; Commander National Order of Scientific Merit, Moinho Santista Prize; International Fertilizer Association (IFA) Prize; Honorary Citzen Piracicaba; honorary member of the Brazilian Society of Soil Science and the Colombian Society of Soil Science. He is also Editor of Communications in Soil Science and Plant Nutrition, of the Annals of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, and Fellow of the Rockfeller Foundation.
