Workplan 2011
- To organize the 9th Conference for Young Scientists, to be held May 2011 in Rio de Janeiro, as part of the inaugural Ceremony for the new members of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.
- To launch the 6th TWAS-ROLAC Young Scientist Prize. In 2011, the prize of US$ 2,000 will be awarded to distinguished young scientists in the areas of of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Earth and Space Sciences.
- To launch the second Prize on “Science Education Prize” in Latin America and the Caribbean. The prize of US$ 3,000 will be awarded “for the development of educational material and school science curricula”, and "in recognition of significant and innovative contributions to educational material and school science curricula that have helped to advance the quality of science education in the Region".
- To select five new Affiliate Members of TWAS in Latin America and the Caribbean, for a five year term.
- Support for the selection of Brazilian Nominations for TWAS members, TWAS Prize and Trieste Prize.
- To organize the 10th Conference for Young Scientists, to be held in December 2011 in Trinidad-Tobago in the areas of Life Sciences, Basic Sciences, Engineering Sciences and Human and Social sciences.
- Support for National Chapters – Prof. Viana from Brazil, Prof. Limonta, from Cuba and Prof. Barrantes, from Argentina have shown interest in receiving the support for National Chapters in order to organize meetings of each chapter.
- Public lecture May 2011 (within the activities of the TWAS Rolac YS Regional conference)
- The Brazilian chapter is also programming a meeting with the TWAS fellows from the country, to discuss topics related to perspectives of science and future activities of the TWAS ROLAC Office.
- To support the TWAS/CNPq Fellowship Programme (30 doctoral and 30 post-doctoral fellowships), providing aid whenever necessary, updating the data base of host institutions, and helping to promote the Programme throughout the scientific community.
- To represent TWAS in all main events dedicated to fostering scientific development in Latin America and the Caribbean and the scientific collaboration among countries in the region and with other parts of the world.
- To encourage and support the activities of National Chapters of TWAS in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the organization of Young Scientists Conferences across the region.
- To keep the TWAS Fellows in the Latin America and the Caribbean updated on the activities, awards, and fellowships of TWAS and the Regional Office.
- To update and expand the website of TWAS-ROLAC, to include all information relevant to the TWAS members in the region.
- To act as a privileged intermediary in the relation between TWAS members in the region and the TWAS headquarters in Trieste.
